The Difference Between Mercedes-Benz Service A & B
Maintenance is critical to preserving the high performance of your Mercedes. To that end, the expert engineers at Mercedes Benz have crafted a service schedule for owners that’s simple to follow and provides the checks so essential for keeping your premium automobile in tip-top shape.
Routine Mercedes service consists of two service intervals: Mercedes-Benz Service A and Mercedes-Benz Service B. What’s the difference between the two, and what services do they cover? Bemer Motor Cars, the best Mercedes Benz repair shop in Houston takes a closer look.
Mercedes-Benz Service A Checklist
The first A-service visit comes at approximately 10,000 miles or one year depending on your driving habits; the car’s Flexible Service System will notify you when it’s time. Service A includes the following:

- Checking fluid levels as recommended for your vehicle’s year and model
- Checking and correcting tire inflation
- Inspecting the brakes
- Resetting the maintenance counter
Mercedes-Benz Service B Checklist
The first B-visit comes at 20,000 miles or two years, depending on your driving habits. Again, your car’s Flexible Service System will notify you when it’s the right time. Service B includes the following:
- Replacing the synthetic motor oil
- Replacing the oil filter
- Checking fluid levels as recommended for your vehicle’s year and model
- Checking and correcting tire inflation
- Inspecting the brakes
- Resetting the maintenance counter
- Replacing the cabin dust/combination filter *
- Exchanging the brake fluid *
- For CLA, GLA AMG models, replacing the engine air filter*
*These items are unique to the B-service.
Service A vs. Service B: What’s the Difference?
As you can see from the above lists, the A and B services are identical except that Service B includes replacing the cabin filter and the brake fluid and an engine air filter replacement for a handful of specific models. Caring for your Mercedes involves alternating between Service A and Service B roughly every 10,000 miles as prompted by the Flexible Service System.
